Waltham has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Newton South Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Waltham and Wayland were almost perfectly matched up, but Waltham suffered an agonizing 21-20 loss.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 35 points the game before, Newton South were a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were outmatched by Bedford at home and fell 42-8. Newton South has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Waltham's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-1 Winchester and 4-2 Westford Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for Newton South, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Everything came up roses for Waltham against Newton South when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 37-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Waltham since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
