2A Patriot recap October 29, 2013
Eaton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in 2A Patriot. Earlier in the week, the Reds defeated Sterling 21-7.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Brush beat Fort Lupton 54-8. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Arnoldo Maltos-garcia was a key player and the best on defense this week as Brush beat the Blue Devils. He nabbed 1 interception.
Mitchel Martin threw for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 8-16 with 1 interception.
Jeff Merritt provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Fort Lupton lost to Randy Dreitz's team. He completed 15 passes for 185 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 69 yards. Merritt's favorite target this week was DJ Vurciaga, who caught 2 passes for 69 yards.
Martin and Jacob Smith gave Strasburg a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Isaac Jacobo also contributed to the rushing game with 111 yards on the ground.
5-foot-11 quarterback Merritt of Jeff Priestley's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,700. He has also thrown 19 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ethan Rose. The Sterling star has 32 catches for 704 yards.
The Blue Devils lost to the Beetdiggers 54-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Merritt was a bright spot for Fort Lupton, as he ran for 69 yards in the loss.
