The Smyrna Bulldogs waltzed into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins but they left with four. They were the clear victor by a 56-32 margin over Riverdale. The result was nothing new for Smyrna, who have now won three matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
Smyrna was led to victory by Tyreque Mccarver and Jalylle Batey-roberts. Mccarver scored 14 points, while Batey-roberts scored 15 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Batey-roberts has scored at least 25% of Smyrna's points. Lance Garner was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Riverdale's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Waymon West, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gray Turek, who scored 5 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Riverdale were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smyrna only pulled down five.
Smyrna's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Riverdale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smyrna will take on Overton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Overton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Smyrna likes a good challenge. As for Riverdale, they will head out on the road to face off against Shelbyville Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Shelbyville Central is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
