Jack Britt and South View are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The Jack Britt Buccaneers will head out on the road to square off against the South View Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Jack Britt didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Gray's Creek, but they still walked away with a 69-64 win. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but South View ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Cape Fear 81-78. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since February 9, 2024.
South View's win came from a few key players Jack Britt will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Antrell Gilmore, who went 7-for-13 en route to 17 points. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Yabniel Cheveres, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
South View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Jack Britt pushed their record up to 9-14 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points over those games. As for South View, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Jack Britt came up short against South View in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 59-55. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gilmore, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Now that Jack Britt knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
