Fort Kent is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Monday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Houlton Shiretowners at 3:00 p.m. Houlton took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Fort Kent, who comes in off a win.
While Fort Kent's victory against Wisdom wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Pioneers 9-8. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Dominic Cyr made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Taggett, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tobias Naranja, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Houlton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 6-1 to Calais.
Houlton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Fraser, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
The victory got Fort Kent back to even at 2-2. As for Houlton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Everything went Fort Kent's way against Houlton when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Fort Kent made off with a 16-4 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Shiretowners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
