The Eaton Reds are taking a road trip to take on the Wellington Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Eaton is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Resurrection Christian just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They were beaten by the Cougars 34-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Max Blaskowski put forth a good effort for the losing side as he picked up 121 receiving yards and one TD.
Even if they lost, Eaton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cameron Southard, Austin Edelmon, and Paxton Pettinger, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Wellington strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat University 47-6. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-0.
Wellington's win came from a few key players Eaton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brayton Meglen, who rushed for 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 37 receiving yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Cyle Kisner, who rushed for 106 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries.
Wellington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 315 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 235 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Wellington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kisner and Kasen Brown.
Eaton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Wellington, their record is now 6-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Eaton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 203.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wellington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 314 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Eaton was dealt a bruising 45-14 loss at the hands of Wellington in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Reds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
