Softball Recap: Smyrna Has No Trouble Against Lavergne

After only one run in their last match, Smyrna made sure to put some runs up on the board against LaVergne on Tuesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 15-1 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 23-0 back in March.

Sara Quintal was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Quintal was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adaeze Nwogbo, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kylah Lowe, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Smyrna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as LaVergne only posted an OBP of .188.

Smyrna is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for LaVergne, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Coming up, Smyrna will be playing at home against Stewarts Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Hawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for LaVergne, they will square off against Wilson Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
