After a string of three wins, the Woodland Regional Hawks's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Crosby, falling 113-59. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Woodland Regional in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost seven in a row.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was James Scampolino, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Brunetti, who scored eight points.
Daniel Melendez was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points for Crosby. Micah Blackman was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Woodland Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Crosby, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Woodland Regional will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Red Raiders. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Connecticut (Derby is ranked 131st, while the Hawks are ranked 114th). As for Crosby, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
