Taylorsville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 5A Region 2. Earlier in the week, the Warriors triumphed over the Warriors 46-0.
Granger and Viewmont played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Granger eventually emerging with a 19-13 victory.
Hunter's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Stone Togiai threw for 22 yards and Ikaika Ete had 22 yards receiving. On the ground Trevon Johnson chipped in 46 yards. Hyrum Purcell helped Hunter's passing attack out by catching one ball for 13 yards.
Taylorsville's Tristinn Martinez and Emilio Salvador have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Martinez has thrown for 328 yards this season, while Salvador, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 11 catches for 177 yards. Purcell from the Wolverines leads the league in rushing with 388 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region 2 will face off this week when first place Granger takes on second place Hunter. Last week, the Lancers defeated the Vikings, while Hunter beat West.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Scott Henderson's team takes on Granger. The Wolverines have allowed 112 points this season, while Alex Gerke's team has given up 150. Hunter allowed 3 points last week as it beat the Panthers.
Rod Wells's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,410 from 11,311. The improvement came about via a 46-0 victory over the Warriors last week.
