Shadow Ridge and Coronado are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Shadow Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Shadow Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Palo Verde, who was ranked first at the time (Shadow Ridge was ranked fifth). The Mustangs came up short against the Panthers on Wednesday, falling 13-1. The Mustangs have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Shadow Ridge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Covington, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coronado, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They never let Centennial get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Wednesday.
Not much got past Sarah Lopez, who gave up just four hits to keep Centennial off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bailey Goldberg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Paisley Magdaleno, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Coronado's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Shadow Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Shadow Ridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
