The Nicholas County Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Nicholas County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Nicholas County is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since April 3rd on Tuesday. They fell just short of Greenbrier West by a score of 8-6. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Abby Hilleary was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over 9.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Myah Scott made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Shady Spring on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Flying Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Aubrey Smallwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 18 Ks.
At the plate, Woodrow Wilson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shailee Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Rose Tucker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Nicholas County's record now sits at 7-10. As for Woodrow Wilson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Nicholas County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodrow Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Nicholas County skirted past Woodrow Wilson 11-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
