Marshall is 0-10 against South El Monte since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. Marshall fell victim to Arroyo and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 24-0 to the Knights. The game marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Marshall saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Detwiler, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.
Meanwhile, South El Monte had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Desteny Sanchez looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Faith Magana was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Sofia Medina was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
South El Monte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for South El Monte, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1-1.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marshall has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .661. However, it's not like South El Monte struggles in that department as they've averaged .601. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marshall might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from South El Monte in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can Marshall avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
