Lubbock is on a three-game streak of home losses, Coronado a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Lubbock Westerners will take on the Coronado Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Lubbock suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 89-38 loss at the hands of Monterey. Lubbock has struggled against Monterey recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Coronado took a serious blow against Monterey on Tuesday, falling 71-38. While losing is never fun, Coronado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 442nd, while Monterey is ranked 17th).
Lubbock has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-19.
Lubbock was able to grind out a solid win over Coronado when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 55-47. Will Lubbock repeat their success, or does Coronado have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
