Payson is on a three-game streak of home losses, the Bulldogs a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Payson Longhorns will take on the Winslow Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Lizzy White and Jaci Gonnie.
On Monday, Payson ended up a good deal behind the Cougars and lost 41-26. While losing is never fun, Payson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Cougars are ranked eighth).
Meanwhile, Winslow sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 victory over the Roadrunners on Friday.
Payson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-11 record this season. As for Winslow, their victory bumped their record up to 6-17.
Payson came up short against the Bulldogs in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 45-36. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Winslow's Jauslyn Nells, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Now that Payson knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
