Softball Recap: Herron Has No Trouble Against Pike

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Heritage Christian, Herron was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Pike Red Devils with a sharp 17-3 win. The Achaeans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Katherine Simcox, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Layla Williams, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Herron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Herron's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Pike, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Herron will face off against Speedway at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pike, they will challenge Beech Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
