Softball Game Preview: Clinton Arrows vs. Starkville Yellowjackets

Clinton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Starkville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Clinton Arrows will be playing at home against the Starkville Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. Clinton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Clinton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Germantown on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 8-7. The Arrows' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Annalise Whitworth spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Keelyn Constancio and Makenzie Cooley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Constancio scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Cooley scored a run while going 2-for-3. Kaelyn Thames was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Starkville didn't have quite enough to beat Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday and fell 7-6. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sadie Foote made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Leigh Parker Morgan, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Starkville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Clinton, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Clinton took their win against Starkville when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 20-3. Does Clinton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Starkville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
