Kingsburg is 0-8 against Buchanan since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Kingsburg Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Buchanan Bears at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Kingsburg is headed out to face Buchanan after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Kingsburg walked away with a 10-5 victory over Clovis East on Wednesday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Alyanna 'Yaya' Gonzales made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Gonzales was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Sarah Urbieta was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Reygan Jones was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Buchanan posted their biggest victory since March 26, 2024 on Wednesday. They never let Edison get on the board and left with a 9-0 win.
Like Kingsburg, Buchanan also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooklyn Ainsworth. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Ainsworth was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayda Magdaleno, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Natalee Gant, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Kingsburg suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Buchanan when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can Kingsburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
