Tom Bean is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Honey Grove is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Tomcats will welcome the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tom Bean's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Savoy with a sharp 20-0 victory.
Reid Sharp made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Keaton Reed was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Donnie Hooten, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Tom Bean was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .769. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Honey Grove got the win against Tioga on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-4.
Like Tom Bean, Honey Grove also got a great game from a two-way player: Levi Beavers. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Beavers was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendal Wolfe, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Carson Reese was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Honey Grove is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Tom Bean, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tom Bean has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Honey Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tom Bean couldn't quite finish off Honey Grove when the teams last played back in March and fell 4-2. Will the Tomcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
