Baseball Recap: Purvis Wins Going Away Against Wayne County

Purvis got themselves on the board against Wayne County on Saturday, but Wayne County never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over the Wayne County War Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Tornadoes, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kade Lawler looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Drew Swan was a standout: he fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of JoJo Parker, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Purvis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Purvis' record is now 6-1. As for Wayne County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Purvis will head out to challenge Presbyterian Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Presbyterian Christian will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Purvis surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wayne County, they will head out on the road to take on Richton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
