Cypress Springs is 10-0 against the Wildcats since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cypress Springs Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Cypress Woods Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cypress Springs has 23 straight victories, the Wildcats have five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Cypress Springs put the finishing touches on their 15th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Cypress Falls 70-22 at home. Given Cypress Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Eagles are ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jemini Mitchell was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Mcdowell, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Cypress Woods, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-36 loss to the Bears on Tuesday. Cypress Woods was down 46-23 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Cypress Springs pushed their record up to 25-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Cypress Woods, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-21 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Cypress Springs against the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 78-22 victory. With Cypress Springs ahead 48-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.
