Basketball Recap: Alleghany Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

If Carroll County wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Alleghany, they should've done a better job of containing Bryce Leitch. The Alleghany Cougars walked away with a 54-45 victory over the Carroll County Cavaliers on Friday thanks in part to Leitch, who went 10 for 23 en route to 31 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Alleghany's points.

Another player making a difference was Ty'Aieja Smith, who posted five points along with six steals and five boards. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cc Mitchell, who scored nine points. Laynie-Jo Leonard also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Alleghany has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Carroll County, they dropped their record down to 0-14 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home.

Alleghany will take on James River at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Alleghany comes in on five and James River on eight. As for Carroll County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-38 defeat against Magna Vista on the 27th.
