The South Eugene Axe will head out on the road to face off against the Southridge Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Eugene will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Southridge is ranked 16th).
Last Saturday, it was a hard-fought contest, but South Eugene had to settle for a 53-50 defeat against Thurston.
South Eugene's loss came about despite a quality game from Landyn Bryant, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Bryant also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. Levi Hawes was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
South Eugene struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Southridge entered their tilt with Tigard with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Everything went Southridge's way against Tigard on Friday as Southridge made off with a 69-46 victory.
South Eugene's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Southridge, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-0.
South Eugene barely slipped by Southridge when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 74-73. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Eugene since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
