The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs and the Meridian Warriors will round out the year against one another at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at. One thing working in Sunrise Mountain's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
Sunrise Mountain scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 78-53 margin over Peoria. Given Sunrise Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Peoria is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunrise Mountain found their leader in underclassman Marcus Murray, who scored 15 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Higgins, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Meridian managed to keep up with Owyhee until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Meridian might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Owyhee an easy 73-52 victory.
The win got Sunrise Mountain back to even at 6-6. As for Meridian, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-3.
