Basketball Recap: Hanks Skates Past Horizon with Ease

There's no place like home for Hanks, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-16 win over the Horizon Scorpions. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 606th, while the Scorpions are ranked 1224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hanks had a senior duo take command as Nevaeh Carrillo went 7 of 12 en route to 14 points along with six boards and four steals and Anette Hernandez dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, Hernandez is now averaging an impressive 8.5 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Avah Diaz, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

Hanks smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

With the victory, Hanks broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-9. As for Horizon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Hanks will take on Parkland in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Horizon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Del Valle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
