The Chiefland Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Hawthorne at home and fell 61-23. Chiefland has not had much luck with Hawthorne recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Chiefland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brianna Bell, who scored five points along with four steals. Bell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Laila Ingram, who scored six points along with two steals.
Chiefland bumped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.0 points per game. As for Hawthorne, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chiefland will challenge Trenton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Trenton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. Hawthorne won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Keystone Heights at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Keystone Heights has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
