A feisty cat fight will be fought as Silsbee Tigers take on Bridge City Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Silsbee's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Bridge City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Silsbee not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since February 25th. They blew past Jasper 14-3. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Brendon Hughes made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Peyton Grisham looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Mikey Moshier, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Perdue, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Silsbee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bridge City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Lumberton on Saturday.
Bridge City's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Silsbee, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5-1 record this season.
Silsbee couldn't quite finish off Bridge City when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Silsbee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
