Gage Goldberg is a high school football player at
Boerne-Champion (Boerne, Texas) with an offer to walk on at Alabama next year. But –
playing along for the professional wrestling fans here – that almost didn't happen due to a vicious attack two years ago by Bobby Lashley at WWE premium live event SummerSlam 2021.
In front of over 50,000 fans at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Gage interfered in a match for the WWE title involving his father and wrestling legend Bill Goldberg, suffering a nasty beatdown at the hands of "The Almighty" Bobby Lashley. See that unfortunate moment at the one minute mark of the video below.
With that behind him, Gage has moved on to the prep gridiron. The senior is listed as a tight/end linebacker and has helped Boerne-Champion start 2-0 this fall with a come-from-behind 27-26 win over Eagle Pass on Friday.
As a junior, Goldberg was credited with 84 tackles and two tackles for loss for the Class 5A program. He also plays catcher and infield for the Charger baseball team, which won 33 games last spring and reached the state semifinals.
Bill Goldberg played in the NFL during the early 1990s with the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers. But he really rose to fame in the squared circle, where he went 173-0 to start his career in 1997-98 and won the WCW world title.
After a decade-long absence from wrestling, he returned to the WWE and won the world title in that company in 2017. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.
