Weaver is 0-3 against Palm Valley since December of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Weaver Monarchs will head out on the road to face off against the Palm Valley FIREBIRDS at 5:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Weaver gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener last Tuesday. They walked away with a 36-24 victory over Joshua Springs Christian.
Even though Palm Valley has not done well against Joshua Springs Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Palm Valley really took it to Joshua Springs Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-9 victory at home. Palm Valley might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three contests by 33 points or more this season.
Palm Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alex Ratner out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. Ratner is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rory O'Kane, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Weaver's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Palm Valley, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1.
Weaver suffered a grim 53-32 defeat to Palm Valley when the teams last played back in January. Can Weaver avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
