Softball Recap: Donovan Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Donovan's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Momence Momence Athletics with a sharp 18-8 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Laylah Lou Walters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Donovan got a massive performance out of Bailey Henneike, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was Henneike's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Anderson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Donovan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Donovan's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Momence, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Donovan will host Armstrong at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. As for Momence, they will head out on the road to square off against Beecher at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
