Hampton County is 5-0 against Lake Marion since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Hampton County Hurricanes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lake Marion Gators at 7:00 p.m. Hampton County will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
Hampton County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Barnwell 89-41 at home. Hampton County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.
Hampton County relied on the efforts of Joel Gittings, who scored 15 points, and Kavon Chisolm, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Gittings scored 15 or more points. Xaviar Garvin was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Lake Marion had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Academic Magnet with a 44-39 victory last Friday. The win was just what Lake Marion needed coming off of a 93-33 loss in their prior match.
Lake Marion found their leader in underclassman Breion Shivers, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Patrick Guest, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Hampton County pushed their record up to 21-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Lake Marion, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-17.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Hampton County have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Lake Marion struggles in that department as they've made 39% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hampton County took their win against Lake Marion in their previous matchup back in February of 2022 by a conclusive 80-55. Will Hampton County repeat their success, or does Lake Marion have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
