Southern Wayne fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Smithfield-Selma by a score of 51-43 on Friday. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 44% better than the opposition, as Southern Wayne's was.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southern Wayne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Hardy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Demetrius Elliot, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Fike pushed their score all the way to 57 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Smithfield-Selma 62-57. Fike has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Southern Wayne's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14. As for Fike, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost ten of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
