Springfield and Gallatin are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2014, but not for long. The Springfield Yellow Jackets will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Gallatin Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Springfield earned a 14-7 victory over Hunters Lane. Given Springfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Hunters Lane is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clarence Cobbins, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Parker Betts was another key contributor, rushing for 114 yards on only 12 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hunters Lane to a paltry 127 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Springfield's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Josh Lee and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Gallatin on the road against Wilson Central on Friday as the squad secured a 37-6 win. The result was nothing new for Gallatin, who have now won three matches by 31 points or more so far this season.
Za'kyian Brinkley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Brinkley is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Stroup, who rushed for four yards and a touchdown.
Springfield's win two weeks ago bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Gallatin, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-3.
Springfield didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Gallatin in their previous matchup back in August of 2018, but they still walked away with a 31-26 win. Will Springfield repeat their success, or does Gallatin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
