River Valley is 0-7 against Sutter since March of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Falcons will host the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Sutter took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on River Valley, who comes in off a win.
On Tuesday, River Valley earned an 8-3 victory over Yuba City.
Payton Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alexis Otero and Emylee Hull did most of the damage at the plate: Otero went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Hull went 2-for-4 with one home run. That's the most hits Otero has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
River Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yuba City only posted a batting average of .214.
Meanwhile, Sutter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against Casa Roble, falling 10-4.
Lexi Callison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Kara Roper was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
River Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sutter, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.
River Valley suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Sutter in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
