The Clinton Prairie Gophers will challenge the Riverton Parke Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clinton Prairie is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Carroll as they made off with a 12-1 win. The victory was nothing new for the Gophers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Sadie Weliver made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Alexis Perez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May. Another player making a difference was Kadie Fearnow, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Clinton Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Riverton Parke had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Knights.
Madison Coonce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Haylee Mathas was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Maddy Lumaye was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
Clinton Prairie's win bumped their record up to 19-8. As for Riverton Parke, their victory bumped their record up to 25-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Clinton Prairie has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Riverton Parke struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits.
