The Mullen Broncos were the 35-28 winner over the Medicine Valley Raiders when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Mullen took a 46-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Mullen saw an underclassman step up: Georgia Wingebach scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wingebach has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Donohoe, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
It was another big night for Stella Heapy, who scored 20 points along with eight steals and five assists for Medicine Valley. Heapy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sienna Houghtelling, who scored seven points along with 13 blocks.
Mullen dropped their record down to 6-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Medicine Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mullen's road trip will continue as they head out to face the on February 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (South Loup is ranked 242nd, while the Broncos are ranked 225th). As for Medicine Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against the Broncos at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Wauneta-Palisade is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
