AA Region VII recap Oct. 3, 2012
Timberland took down Kingstree 59-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Lake City made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,734 from 6,703. The improvement came about via a 52-38 victory over Lake Marion last week.
The Gators' dynamic duo of Deriante Jenkins and Mike Williams proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jenkins threw for 354 yards and two touchdowns and Williams had 150 yards receiving. DontreVyon Jones helped Lake Marion's passing attack out by catching three balls for 75 yards.
T'Darius Gregg was the most productive running back in AA Region VII this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 130 yards as Lee Central lost to Lake City. Johntel Johnson also contributed to the rushing game with 96 yards on the ground.
Chris Carter's team's Jenkins and Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jenkins has thrown for 1929 yards this season, while Williams, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 37 catches for 951 yards. Andrews's Jaleel Filmore leads the league in rushing yards with 560.
The Gators' Williams is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 49 receiving yards against the Stallions to hit that benchmark.
Lake Marion's Jenkins is within 71 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Lee Central.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wolves take on Jim Rowell's team. As it stands, Timberland is in first, while the Panthers are in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when the Gators and Baron Turner's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Lake Marion comes in having scored 213 this season, while the Stallions have scored 216. The Gators scored 38 points last week as they fell to Lake City.
Arthur Craig's team led AA Region VII in scoring this week after putting up 59 points on the Jaguars.
