The Moon Valley Rockets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Mingus, falling 53-17. While losing is never fun, Moon Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Mingus is ranked 61st).
Leading Mingus to victory were Savannah Tobias and Alice Kinsey. Tobias dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Kinsey dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Tobias' tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makela Martinez, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Moon Valley's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.3 points per game. As for Mingus, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Moon Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cortez at 5:30 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Cortez is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. Mingus will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bradshaw Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
