The Burns Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to the Shelby Golden Lions when they met back in January of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. Burns fell 69-57 to Shelby. While losing is never fun, Burns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Shelby is ranked 163rd).
When it comes to explaining why Burns lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremiah Norris. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. Kamari Surratt was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Burns' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-10. As for Shelby, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burns will take on Highland Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Highland Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Shelby, they will head out on the road to face off against Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cherryville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
