The Chilton County Tigers won the last time they faced the Benjamin Russell Wildcats, and things went their way on Thursday too. Chilton County snuck past Benjamin Russell with a 48-42 victory. Given Chilton County's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Benjamin Russell is ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chilton County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ishunti Brown, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Brown is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Ivyonna Varner was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight steals and five rebounds.
Chilton County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. As for Benjamin Russell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chilton County will take on Elmore County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Benjamin Russell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Central of Coosa County at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Central of Coosa County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Tuesday.
