Two dominant guards in Claire Goodwin and Ralynn Hickman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mancos Bluejays will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Dove Creek Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mancos comes in on four and Dove Creek on five.
In what's become a running theme this season, Mancos gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dolores 57-15 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-7.
It was another big night for Quincy Montoya, who scored 25 points along with nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Goodwin was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Dove Creek scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They really took it to Ridgway for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-31 win at home. Dove Creek has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 30 points or more this season.
Dove Creek's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Hickman, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Kylie Gatlin, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Gatlin pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Halee Beanland, who scored three points along with four steals.
Mancos' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.67 points. As for Dove Creek, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Mancos lost to Dove Creek at home by a decisive 58-39 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Mancos, Lexi Gray (who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
