The Modesto Panthers's game on Tuesday was all tied up 32-32 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 71-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central Valley. Modesto was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Central Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the loss, Modesto still got an impressive performance from Phillip Gonder, who scored 17 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Gonder scored a full 29.3% of Modesto's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Poulsen, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals.
Sahibjot Deal was the offensive standout of the game as he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds. Emmanuel Carranza was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Modesto's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Central Valley, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.
Modesto won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ceres at 7:30 p.m. on November 29th. Hopefully Ceres focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday. As for Central Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Johansen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Johansen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1040th, while Central Valley is ranked 460th).
