The Mesquite Wildcats will face off against the Mohave Accelerated Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Mesquite: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Mohave Accelerated has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
Mesquite came up short against Campo Verde on Friday, falling 12-2.
Olivia Romans made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mohave Accelerated). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Trivium Prep a 26-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 15 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kennedy Lamb was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Mohave Accelerated got a massive performance out of Tanner Banks, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, eight RBI, and five runs. Those five runs gave Banks a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rayli Marin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs.
Mohave Accelerated was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .846. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in 17 consecutive matchups.
Mesquite's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Mohave Accelerated, their victory bumped their record up to 19-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Mesquite has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Mohave Accelerated struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
