Basketball Recap: Cox Mill Takes a Loss

Cox Mill played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Mooresville Blue Devils 78-49. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 37th).

Despite the loss, Cox Mill saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sherod McCmormick posted 19 points. McCmormick's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Miller, who scored ten points and seven boards.

It was another big night for Dylan Clark, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds for Mooresville. Clark is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Kyri Wilson was another key player, dropping a triple-double on 11 points, ten boards, and ten assists.

Cox Mill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Mooresville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Cox Mill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 82-43 win against South Iredell on the 27th. As for Mooresville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-55 victory against Hickory Ridge on the 28th.
