The Woodlawn Cardinals waltzed into their contest on Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Christ Our Rock Lutheran and snuck past 40-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Woodlawn has posted yet this season.
It was another big night for Jase Burkett, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aryka Warren, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Woodlawn pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Christ Our Rock Lutheran, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodlawn will take on Carlyle at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Carlyle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Thursday. As for Christ Our Rock Lutheran, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marissa/Coulterville at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Marissa/Coulterville's defense has only allowed 25.8 points per game this season, so Christ Our Rock Lutheran's offense will have their work cut out for them.
