Softball Recap: Ledyard Extends Winning Streak to Five

27 must be Ledyard's lucky number: they beat New London with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Colonels didn't even let the Whalers on the board, marking the Colonels' second-straight 27-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Colonels sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Kyra Manning and Alexia Lemmon made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Manning struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Lemmon struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Manning went 3-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI, while Lemmon went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ledyard let Emma Discuillo and Faith Dalton run wild. Discuillo got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs and two stolen bases, while Dalton got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, Dalton is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Mackenzie Caise was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Ledyard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in four consecutive matches.

Ledyard's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.0 runs over those games. As for New London, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Ledyard will face off against Killingly at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New London, they will head out to challenge Woodstock Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Whalers are facing the Centaurs at the right time seeing as the Centaurs are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
