After flying high against the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles on Tuesday, the Roncalli Royals came back down to earth. Roncalli fell 66-53 to Franklin Community on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Roncalli can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while Franklin Community is ranked sixth).
Roncalli's loss came despite strong showings from Elliot Leffler and Sara Rosko. Leffler scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, while Rosko scored 13 points. Rosko continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Claire Lindsey was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Franklin Community's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Erica Buening, who scored 21 points. The game was Buening's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Emma Sappenfield, who scored 17 points along with five assists.
Roncalli has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Franklin Community, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.
Roncalli will head out on the road to face off against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Franklin Community, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Seymour at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
