The Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs will head out to face off against the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Greenfield-Central will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Franklin Community extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Grizzly Cubs were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Perry Meridian. The Grizzly Cubs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.
Annabelle Richter was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Richter was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrey Leugers was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Addie Martin also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Franklin Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Greenfield-Central not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 11, 2024 (when they won 13-3). They blew past Columbus East 8-2. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Olympians recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Addie Heacox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kristen Wineinger, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Savvanna Riall, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Franklin Community pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Greenfield-Central, their record is now 4-2.
Greenfield-Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Franklin Community has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Greenfield-Central, though, as they've been averaging 11.5 hits. Given Franklin Community's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Franklin Community suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Greenfield-Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Grizzly Cubs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
