The Coronado Mustangs will challenge the Tascosa Rebels at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Coronado has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Coronado came up short against Lubbock on Friday, falling 16-2. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Westerners recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Coronado saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydni Carpenter, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tascosa came into Friday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let Palo Duro get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rebels needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Christmas Morris made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in January of 2025.
In other batting news, Vanessa Langeland was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Alyssa Maldonado was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Tascosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palo Duro only posted an OBP of .200.
Tascosa's win bumped their record up to 12-14-1. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coronado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Tascosa struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Coronado's way against Tascosa in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Coronado made off with a 12-3 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
