After both having extra time off, the Westfield Bulldogs and the Chantilly Chargers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.
Westfield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against James Madison, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Warhawks by a score of 6-4 last Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Warhawks: they've now lost seven in a row.
Westfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carly Austin, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Chantilly was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Oakton.
Izzy Dilber put in work no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Dilber was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Rylee John made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Rin Kelley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Westfield's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Chantilly, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Chantilly struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westfield took their victory against Chantilly when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
