Winside has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Johnson-Brock Eagles at 16:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Winside didn't have too much trouble with East Butler at home as they won 20-6. The win was just what Winside needed coming off of a 46-20 defeat in their prior match.
Kaden Hunt was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Winside's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Aden Sellin and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, Johnson-Brock put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 66-8 win over Diller-Odell. Fans of Johnson-Brock have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Sloan Pelican continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 105 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, while also throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes. Chase VanWinkle did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Winside's victory on Friday bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Johnson-Brock, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Winside has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 159.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Johnson-Brock struggles in that department as they've been even better at 215.8 per game. It's looking like Thursday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Winside was dealt a bruising 58-12 defeat at the hands of Johnson-Brock in their previous meeting back in October of 2021. Thankfully for Winside, Caleb Fossenbarger (who rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
